Hi All:

This is our regular mailing intended to improve communication within the Search and Rescue community in Alberta. It is going to 328 e-mail addresses that are listed as the primary contact of SAR Alberta member groups or which were requested to be added to the mailing list.
Subscription and unsubscription information is at the end of the newsletter.

SOMETHING TO DO WHILE DIGESTING ALL THAT TURKEY

This edition has notice about plenty of chores that have come in over the past months in requests for information. I know it's not cool, but I have to admit to being thoroughly confused about how many requests are represented. I think one, at least, could be duplicated, but you can contact wiser heads than this one to be set straight.

Hey, Michelle mdmaschke at yahoo.com , Edward VanHeeren rockymountainhousesar at yahoo.ca , Reese Wolsey <westpem at telusplanet.net>, can you help us out, please?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

REMINDER ABOUT STATISTICAL DATA

The following, from Michelle Maschke, is a reminder to the groups that we are still in process of collecting the statistical data on the teams and their activities, as well as membership lists and incidents. This data is important for statistical reference and be assured that all will be kept confidential and not shared for any other reasons than SAR Alberta reference and research.

The information may be sent to Regional Directors or to Michelle.

Thanks and have a good Christmas. Michelle mdmaschke at yahoo.com

CALLING ALL SAR GROUPS

Rocky SAR sends a request out to ALL SAR groups in the Province to send them a digital copy of their crest and/or Logo. They are putting on the SAR Alberta conference in 2007 (more details for this to come soon) and are planning a presentation involving all of the groups' crests.

Please e-mail responses to rockymountainhousesar at yahoo.ca .

Edward VanHeeren, Past -President, Rocky SAR.

REQUEST FROM SARVAC

Request For Pictures and Information.
>From Reese Wolsey <westpem at telusplanet.net> Please send pictures for SARVAC and answer the questions as per your region. If you send the info to me I will send one package to SARVAC.
The original message came from Charlie Strickland at SARVAC, charles.strickland at ns.sympatico.ca and the request is as follows:-
One. Pictures for SARVAC
I have an assignment from SARVAC to create a library of digital pictures for use in brochures, the Website and for other SARVAC uses.
- This requires high resolution pictures (i.e., the bigger the file the better) if at all possible

Two - Civil Emergency Response (CER)
I have been tasked by the Search Management Advisory Committee (SMAC) - which is an advisory committee to the Emergency Management Office (EMO), Nova Scotia to find out about the involvement of GSAR volunteers in each Province and Territory in CER.
1) What kinds of CER type services are your team or teams providing or performing?
2) What is your association considering for the future or has under development re CER?
3) What present needs or anticipated needs have the agencies you work with requested or would want you to be able to deliver?
4) What training courses have you developed or have planned to support your people in CER?

INFORMATION SHEET FOR FAMILIES OF SAR VOLUNTEERS

Pincher Creek SAR is preparing an information sheet for the families
of our new and existing members. We plan to include a bit on how SAR
response affects families, confidentiality, and how to monitor for
Critical Incident Stress and what to do. Does anyone have something
like this already? Contact: Brett Wuth wuth at acm.org .

If you'd like a copy of what we put together, let us know.

EMERGENCY KITS AND WHAT TO DO

This was forwarded via Michelle and Rick Koinberg rick.koinberg at gmail.com

Take a look at the following website - Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Canada have information and advice on what to do when cooking your turkey blows up the transformer on the pole beside your house. (Well, maybe it could happen.) Link below.

LATE NOTICE

Cindy Heselton sent the editor a message about the SAR Basics Instructor Course 2007, but she sent it through the SARA Happenings website and the cyber-mice ate the message content. ( I presume there was once an attachment.) I'm hoping this isn't too late to be of use.

SAR BASICS "TRAIN THE TRAINER" COURSE, CALGARY, JANUARY 26-28, 2007

Become a SAR Basics Instructor. Hosted by CALSARA, and taught by ERI's Daryl Black, this course will feature the latest version of the Fundamentals of Ground Search and Rescue (FOGSAR) manual.

Course Information available in PDF or in RTF.

Inquiries regarding the course can be directed to Shannon Krzywicki or by phone at 403-270-3364 (after reading the information package first).

Registration Deadline is Dec 15th but late registrations will be considered for a few more days. Don't Delay!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

POLITICALLY CORRECT SEASONAL GREETING FROM THE EDITOR

Let us all hope for a safe and happy holiday, with good digestion and minimal indulgence in things that are bad for us :-) Happy times with loved ones, and fond remembrances for those far away. Let us hope that no one becomes lost or distressed over the holidays and all the volunteers get to spend the time with their families and friends.

A further wish for our armed forces' and for everyone else's health and safety in the war zones around the world, and hope we don't get any new ones in the near future. A greeting for all on duty or on shift over the holidays; police, firefighters, nurses and doctors, and all workers in essential industries.

See you all in the New Year.
