dubbed Disaster City, in College Station, Texas. It is the second =
consecutive year the local rescue team attended to learn new life saving =
skills and techniques. This year the seven locals participated in a full =
scale disaster exercise in conjunction with Texas Task Force 1 (TTF).

"They (TTF) have a team of 300 people, and every year they take a third =
of that team and have a major exercise for the weekend," said Ric =
Henderson, planning section chief for the Red Deer search and rescue =
team. "We fitted in with the team, doing the search part and where =
people are, and the rescue.

"One of our team members is a nurse and has done some medical training =
with them as well," said Henderson, who is also assistant county manager =
for Red Deer County. "She was part of the medical team. Other people, =
such as myself, were shadowing some of their team leaders as part of the =
team management."

Disaster City is adjacent to the world-renowned Brayton Fire Training =
Field, and offers a full array of skills and techniques sought by =
emergency response professionals from all corners of the world.

"They actually built a town and pretty much wrecked it, with overturned =
buses with fake people in them and collapsed buildings," said Bev =
Sliger, president of the 70-member, all volunteer local search and =
rescue team.

"It is a very, very unique and interesting place."

Created by the Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX), the mock =
community features full-scale, collapsible structures designed to =
simulate various levels of disaster and wreckage which can be customized =
for the specific training needs of any group.

TTF is considered one of the most active search and rescue teams in the =
U.S., having responded to at least one major disaster each year since =
its inception in 1998.
