<P><FONT size=3>Weekly tips to help you and your colleagues become more
effective and respected leaders.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=3>Today's Topic: Solving Performance Problems: Why ask for their
help?<B>"</P></B></FONT>
<P><FONT size=3>Four of the most powerful words in the English language are ""I
need your help."" Asking for assistance is a great way to fix performance
problems. It''s a sign of strength, not weakness. </FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=3>Effective leaders realize two things: </FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=3>1. They don''t have all the answers. </FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=3>2. They benefit in the long run from asking for help from the
people around them.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=3>You''ll build commitment by asking more than telling. By asking
for people''s input and help, you gain the cooperation you need to build high
performance. And, you demonstrate that you value others'' opinions -- a
good way to enhance their self-esteem. More importantly, you''re likely to end
up with a better solution than you would by proceeding on your own with no
input. Besides that, people support solutions that they feel they had a say in
developing. </FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=3>Take a look at </FONT><A

<P><FONT size=3>Hi everyone, </FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=3>Well, the beauty of not being very structured in Alberta is that
people can take initiative……so that's what I have done…… </FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=3>Remember when Lisa worked so hard a few years ago putting
together an instructor listing? Well, I've created one in the SAR Alberta Wiki
pages. This way, people can enter their own information directly and
voila -- it's instantly accessible to everyone. I admit, I still like the
look and feel of Lisa's much better……but by using a Wiki, we can have people
add/manage their own contact information…….</FONT></P>
<P><FONT size=3>So, check it out…….let me know if you have suggested changes (or
hell, change it yourself……that's the beauty of wiki's). I put my name under a
couple of categories as examples...</FONT></P>
