<P>TWO COURSES FROM SEASAR – UPDATE</P></B>

<P>Just in the nick of time, we would like to have the following training
sessions included:</P>
<P>- ManTracking II Course: 20 and 21 September 2008 ( two-day course), and</P>
<P>- Green Check GPS Certification Program: choice of 27 or 28 September 2008
(one-day course) – still room for a few more.</P>
<P>UPDATE – </P>
<P>South Eastern Alberta Search and Rescue (SEASAR) has a few spots left for
anyone interested in taking the Man Tracking II course being held on 20 and 21
September 2008. The Green Check GPS Certification course scheduled for 27 or 28

<P>UPCOMING SARSCENE</P></B>
<P>SARSCENE, now in its 17th year, has grown from a small workshop into a
national conference that is gaining international appeal. It is the largest
national Search and Rescue (SAR) conference and expo where Canadian and
international SAR professionals (Air, Ground, Marine) gather to learn about new
equipment and emerging technologies, share best practices, exchange ideas and
tackle issues facing SAR.</P>
<P>The National Search and Rescue Secretariat, along with the Newfoundland and
Labrador Search and Rescue Association and the Newfoundland and Labrador
Department of Justice, are working hard as co-hosts to develop an engaging and
interactive SAR program under the theme of Strengthening Partnerships.</P>
<P>This year’s conference and expo will be in St. John’s Newfoundland and
Labrador, October 15-18, 2008. Participants will be treated to the province’s
rich history, unique culture and its’ world renowned hospitality and natural
beauty. SARSCENE events are being held at the Delta St. John’s Hotel and
Conference Centre, Sunshine Park and Quidi Vidi Lake.</P>

<P><B>RED DEER SAR IN TEXAS</P></B>
<P></P>
<P>On August 28th, 12 members of Red Deer Search and Rescue Technical Rescue
Team travelled to College Station, Texas, to train at the world renowned
"Disaster City" training facility. </P>
<P>All 12 members received certification as Disaster Technical Search
Specialists. This 40 hour course was undertaken over a four day period under the
excellent guidance of two search managers of Texas Task Force 1, who immediately
headed south at the end of the training to assist with the devastation left
behind by Hurricane Gustav.</P>
<P>Training in collapsed buildings and on rubble piles, team members are now
qualified in the use of search cameras and seismic and acoustic listening
devices.</P>
<P>Disaster City is operated by the Texas Engineering Extension Service of the
Texas A&M University System, and trains rescuers from around the world.</P>
