[SARA-Members] provincial grants

Hi
Just a follow-up to my earlier response.
When St. Paul holds a course we have been able to subsidise the course
grant monies with donations for our hall rental, lunches and instructors
donating their time. In the past we never included these donated items
when we submitted our grant return report.
If we really want to let Municipal Affairs (who ultimately supply the
grant money) know what the actual costs are to hold courses (especially
in northern locations) we should submit all costs, including items that
were subsidized or donated from other sources.
Our recent SAR Basic Skills course was given $ 3,000 in grant monies but
our actual costs were over $ 4,000.

Hi there.
Our group does not get enough money or flexibility with the training
grants. Travel and accommodations take over 1/2 the costs, then the
course itself.
As for our MD, if we can change this, it may help this group with on
going issues we have. Definitely something to look at.
Different courses to chose from would be nice as well, or just lump sum
instead of specific courses money for specific courses?

St. Paul is experiencing a higher cost than the grants have provided
for. This is due to the majority of the instructors having to travel
larger distances to get here. I expect our Search Manager course to
exceed our grant by $ 2,000 or more.

Exec:
Whatever we decide, a couple of points.
To date, Turner Valley has proved to be flexible in dealing with our
grants ie. applied our course costs against the total grant rather than
the specific amounts of each course.
If we again go for a Wilderness Leadership course, and it involves an
outside group eg. Yamnuski, we should price the course based on our past
experience which is around $4,000. Our 2008 grant used a $2,000 amount.
