[SARA-Members] Urgent - FW: SAR Grants - deadline extended

Please see the attached email from Pat Henneberry. Ric Henderson did meet
with AEMA in November. He repeatedly requested - via email clarification and
information that could be sent out to the teams in advance - he was told to
wait until Ministerial approval - and AEMA did not send anything to Ric or
SAR Alberta.

 

I am taking the matter up with AEMA director David Hodgins.

 

If a team has not received their package please email me asap and I will
send you one via email. There are four basic courses being offered this year
and they are listed in the grant package.

Hi Monica, 

I was told that some of the SAR groups received their grant notification
letter just today and that in at least some cases, the groups were not aware
of the course offerings for the  grants this year.  I share your concern
about this.  I know that the applications were mailed out two weeks ago.
Perhaps more importantly, I understood that during at least one SAR Alberta
meeting last year, the courses that were to be available was discussed and
that the groups would be made aware of the offerings.  That advanced warning
was intended to give the groups plenty of time to consider their needs.
This would have been in December or perhaps even November, I believe.

Obviously, the word did not get to everyone and for whatever reason the mail
system didn't meet our needs.  Scott Pepper and I looked at the tight
timelines and I have determined that we can give an extra week to those
groups needing more time, so their applications don't have to be in our
hands until the end of the business day on Monday, March 9.  I am concerned
that if I offer any more time than that, the necessary paperwork could not
be completed before the end of the fiscal year.

I am heading home now (It's my anniversary and I best not miss it!!).  I'll
call you tomorrow so we can talk processes.  If there is a particular time
you might be available, please send me a quick return email.
