Good day...

I trust you all had a safe, relaxing and productive summer.

Here is an update regarding the Training Grant we all have enjoyed over
the last several year.

So far I have NO news yet as to if this grant will go ahead this year.
As in the last few years we always say the same thing and then in a week
the Gov. hits us with a positive comments and gives us a deadline to get
the grant wish list in to them. It always seems to be a scramble and
one that often will create some confusion.

Bottom line as many of you now now the EMA - Emergency Management
Alberta Office has been officially tasked by the Government of Alberta
to coordinate SAR. We now have a lead ministry and from my perspective
I hope they are interactive with both direction and funds and allow us
to do what we do -
Search and Train with direction.

So I therefore have no direction from the SAR Alberta EX or the EMA -
but communications of this nature is important to keep you all in the loop.
In hind site I ask that all of you share this with your groups and
create a training wish list based more or less on the past grant
courses. Keep this handy and when the time comes we will ask for it,
and I can assure you there will be deadlines; so your preparedness will
be appreciated.

Courses - Again since we have no direction we will stick to the old
course list. But I can tell you I have personally sampled two new
courses and many from our groups have taken the training and I hope to
add this to our list so we can all benefit.

First I will encourage the addition of a pure GPS Greencheck and
Navigation course - One day course with a National Certification . Last
year SAR Alberta trained 10 Instructors in the program from across Alberta.

The second course is part of a large plan but includes a one day
interactive course called Human Factors in High Risk Environments. It
is being taught thru the States, Canada and Australia to Police Fire and
SAR and does place a different spin on our decision making. It is not
just for leaders but definitely is part of a leadership package.

So therefore we can look at two new exciting and practical courses in
addition to our standard courses.

Lastly if we are not able to secure the grant and you have an interest
in one of the two mentioned courses please ask and I can assist or
direct you.

Take care and I invite comments and questions.
