LEADERSHIP LESSONS
Shelly keeps sending me these for SARA Happenings. I guess I'd better include one <grin>. They come from an outfit called http://www.walkthetalk.com/ .
Weekly tips to help you and your colleagues become more effective and respected leaders.
Today's Topic: Solving Performance Problems: Why ask for their help?"
Four of the most powerful words in the English language are ""I need your help."" Asking for assistance is a great way to fix performance problems. It''s a sign of strength, not weakness.
Effective leaders realize two things:
1. They don''t have all the answers.
2. They benefit in the long run from asking for help from the people around them.
You''ll build commitment by asking more than telling. By asking for people''s input and help, you gain the cooperation you need to build high performance. And, you demonstrate that you value others'' opinions -- a good way to enhance their self-esteem. More importantly, you''re likely to end up with a better solution than you would by proceeding on your own with no input. Besides that, people support solutions that they feel they had a say in developing.
Take a look at http://www.walkthetalk.com/ .

INSTRUCTOR LISTING ON WIKI
Here's a note from Cindy Hesleton Cindy.Heselton at calgary.ca
Hi everyone,
Well, the beauty of not being very structured in Alberta is that people can take initiative..so that's what I have done..
Remember when Lisa worked so hard a few years ago putting together an instructor listing? Well, I've created one in the SAR Alberta Wiki pages. This way, people can enter their own information directly and voila -- it's instantly accessible to everyone. I admit, I still like the look and feel of Lisa's much better..but by using a Wiki, we can have people add/manage their own contact information...
So, check it out...let me know if you have suggested changes (or hell, change it yourself..that's the beauty of wiki's). I put my name under a couple of categories as examples...

Happy wiki_ing...
